PRESENTERS DISCLOSURE OF POTENTIAL CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

The ISCFS and DISTRACTION SYMPOSIUM Organising Committee requires that all presentations be as free of commercial bias as possible and that any information on commercial products or services be based on already generally accepted medical thinking. It is also preferred that generic drug names be used wherever possible and that any presentation referring to unlabelled or research-associated commercial products should disclose this situation to session attendees/on posters display.

GUIDE TO THE SCIENTIFIQUE PROGRAMME

The Scientific Programme is composed by three main sections:

Distraction Symposium - Saturday 26th September 2009

This symposium follows the format of the previous Paris Distraction Congress with sessions devoted to the various aspect of distraction osteogenesis in the craniofacial skeleton.

Morning sessions are a combination of free scientific papers chosen from general submissions and panel discussions by experts in the field. This is held in the plenary room and attended by all delegates.

Afternoon sessions are parallel interactive sessions (SHARK) based on case presentations selected from general abstract submission and from invited speakers.

Congress Pre-symposium - Sunday 27th September 2009

This pre-symposium is based on the theme “Controversies and Consensus in Craniofacial Surgery” It will consist of four themed sessions – distraction based in the morning and general multi-disciplinary craniofacial surgery in the afternoon.
Selected panels will give case based discussions around selected “controversies” with audience participation to try and establish “consensus” in terms of management, outcomes and implications of conditions and current treatment modalities.

ISCFS XIII Congress - Monday 28th September to Wednesday 30th September 2009

As in the past this 2.5 day Congress is offer themed free paper based sessions on all major multidisciplinary aspects of craniofacial care from basic science research to state of the art management options.
In each session, a large portion of time is dedicated to discussion and questions.

Please remember:
Access to all sessions and satellite symposium is included in the registration fees according to the package you have chosen.

PRESENTATIONS AND TIMING

The Congress has been designed to allow approximately 25% of the time to be allocated to discussion. It is therefore essential that all papers run to time as the programme has been laid out to-the-minute, with no leeway for overruns of any of the presentations.

Any overruns would eat into the discussion time, which would be a significant disadvantage to other participants in the relevant session. Although it may appear to be a draconian step, the decision has been made to return to the previous time control measures initially established in the Taiwan meeting. This is based on a 3-colour traffic light system: a green light will remain on throughout the talk duration until 30 seconds from the end, at which point it will change to yellow. At 15 seconds from the end of the allocated time, the yellow will change to red. At the end of the allocated time, the AV system in terms of microphone and slides will be switched off. This will occur with no exceptions.

It is therefore essential that all presenters keep within their allocated time to avoid the disappointment of not being able to present their conclusions.
